morning routine to improve your acne

Here are 3 things to add to your morning routine if you’re trying to heal your acne:

1️⃣ Morning sunlight: 10 minutes of direct sunlight within 30 minutes of waking helps to stimulate cortisol production & supports your circadian rhythm. Cortisol gets a bad rap for acne because it can increase sebum production (thus more breakouts), but this is only true in cortisol EXCESS. A healthy amount of cortisol is necessary for survival! & a balanced circadian rhythm is a MUST for healing acne. So grab your breakfast & eat it on the porch! Or, if it's too cold still, you can hack your way to full spectrum light with this Verilux light box.

2️⃣ Blood sugar balanced breakfast within an hour of waking to kickstart your metabolism and prevent excess cortisol production. When we don’t eat breakfast, our adrenals pump out cortisol to tell our liver to make its own glucose (which is really demanding on our body!). Cortisol in excess is an acne trigger, and so is blood sugar imbalance. So do yourself a favor & eat a well-balanced breakfast consisting of protein + fat + carb within an hour of waking to get your day started off with a balanced blood sugar!

3️⃣ Deep breathing + positive affirmations: Shallow breathing and negative self-talk trigger cortisol and create inflammation on a cellular level. Start your day with at least 5 deep diaphragmatic breaths & 1-3 affirmations to remind yourself of your worth and that healing WILL happen for you.

Acne is so much more than just an external problem. It often stems from deep within, which is why we must take an internal AND an external approach to healing!
